This session will address the significant gender diversity gap within the cyber security sector, where women make up only 17% of the workforce, and just 3% hold senior positions. In addition, only 22% of the cyber workforce are from ethnic minority backgrounds. The discussion will focus on how this imbalance stems, whether from societal norms and early education influences, and the factors contributing to this grassroots challenge. The session will explore actionable steps, including policy recommendations, societal initiatives, and the role of academia, to address this issue and promote a more inclusive and diverse cyber security workforce.
